Apple iPad – Pass!
Posted by Ameya Kanitkar on January 28, 2010
I have an iPhone, I have an iPod and I have the high end Mac Book Pro – Needless to say I am a big Apple fan, but surprisingly – here is why I’ll short all new Apple iPad!

To me iPad is just an iPhone with 9 inch screen minus ‘phone’. Its great to have a handy device like iPad which fits between Macbook and an iPhone, runs all your iPhone apps, has a touch screen, runs for 10 hours, can be used as a e-book reader and costs under $500! Sounds awesome. But this is why I still say pass to iPad -
We need laptops – yes we need them, there is no question about that. For all my office work and all my personal browsing/ blogging – I need my laptop. In fact I get a decent dual core machine for under $700.
We need smart phones – To check emails on the fly, to find directions, find restaurants (all local search), play casual games, listen to music, update my latest profile picture on facebook, and keep tweeting…. I need a smart phone, and I get that for $199 or less!
Now when do you need a tablet? Traveling, and you need something to read/ play with? Certainly not to type lengthy emails (it sucks to type on a touch screen). Certainly not to run any enterprise app. Certainly not to edit word/ excel documents. Not to play games (I’d prefer my ps3 any day). Yes this new toy from Apple does all what iPhone does, and most browsing that my mac book does – but I can not think of too many use cases – where you NEED iPad, and certainly not many when you shell out $629 (yes. with 3G net connectivity and $30/ month to at&t ).
In sum, iPad is a great device, but I doubt millions would buy it as they did for iPhone, iPod and laptop computers. Hence – Apple iPad -Pass!

just one thing to note that … its almost life size keyboard. so i don’t think it won’t be any problem to type on it once you get used to it.

@DJ – Yeh you are right, but doubt if I can type as fast with touch keyboard vs real keyboard. (with a bump on ‘f’ and ‘j’)
Btw if you are interested in knowing other technical limitations of an iPad – here they are – http://mashable.com/2010/01/27/ipad-whats-missing/

I agree! And what’s worse, just like the iPhone, the iPad does not allow multi task or flash.
Some say that the iPad is Apple’s attempt at the netbook market but how can it when it would not even allow something as basic and needed as multi-tasking.

yes … there are a lot of limitations to ipad. its nothing more than a oversized iphone to me … that too u can’t make call from it. not worth spending money on something like this. have to wait and watch what HP slate has to give us.
